Clutch live at KOKO (with Hark supporting – Access All Areas), 22/1/13

Tonight as well as shooting the heavy rock powerhouse headliner that is Clutch, I also had the pleasure of being commissioned by support band Hark.  Hark are no newcomer to the underground hard rock scene with a strong pedigree in the form of frontman, guitarist and vocalist Jimbob who lead the much respected Welsh band Taint since his childhood.  The last two years have seen Jimbob bring together bassist Niko and drummer Simon to form Hark.   The band have spent that time in a period of gestation, crafting and developing their songs and sound and rehearsing their guts out.   Last autumn Hark made their London live debut supporting the legendary Pentagram.  This evening saw them join Clutch on the headline band’s Earth Rocker tour at a sold out and rammed-to-the rafters KOKO, tonight being the first of many similarly explosive nights throughout Europe.

The joy of a direct commission – being able to shoot throughout the gig, as well as from the stage.  The requirements of a direct commission – capturing a set of images that gives a full and comprehensive record of the bands performance, top to bottom.  This meant getting captivating and varied shots of individual band members, band mates together in various combinations, moments of aggressive fury, moments of quiet intensity, the band, the stage, the captivated audience, the entire show.

I’m happy I nailed the job, and more importantly the guys from Hark are too.   If you have or manage a band and want a similarly impressive record of an important gig, drop me a line at richard@richardisaac.co.uk
