My year in music photography, 2016
Yes it that time of year for me when I look back through the gigs & festivals I shot over the past twelve months and compile my highlights & favourites that best reflect my journey through the year in music photography.
There were the comebacks, All Saints, Richard Ashcroft, Craig David, LCD Soundsystem, and I’ll even mention James Arthur in this sentence. Rock legends in massive stadiums, (Bruce Springsteen at Wembley), and more intimate venues (Radiohead at the Roundhouse). Artists on the rise whose music I’ve been loving this year, with Christine and Queens, Chance the Rapper, MO, and the 1975. However my favourite shot of the year, not necessarily because its compositionally the best shot (I prefer Richard Ashcroft against purely that measure), but more because of the intensity of the performance she gave, of the total adoration that the 135k festival goers gave her as they watched her perform on the main stage, and that I managed to capture a super-climactic moment as she stood amongst the fans on a mini stage in the middle of the field with pyrotechnics going BOOM!!! Behind her, was of course Adele at Glastonbury. Up to that point I’ll admit feeling on her was rather neutral, but that performance actually did blow me away, and I think that shot will be my lead portfolio piece for some time.
Happy new years all!
